Outside Nike's swoosh, PLAY's cartoon heart might be the most iconic, recognizable image in fashion today. Created in the late 1980s by Polish graphic artist Filip Pagowski, that little bugger has become downright ubiquitous, outgrowing its métier as logo to become a significant pop culture artifact in and of itself. Drawn in a loose, easy style that recalls Keith Haring, the heart figure appears on each PLAY item, elevating simple tees and sweaters from garments to art. A recent collaboration with Simpsons creator Matt Groening furthered the label's, ahem, playful reputation.
